Roseville babysitter faces child abuse charges as 1-year-old is hospitalized with no brain activity
Roseville police said an 1-year-old boy died after being abused by his babysitter.
The abuse occurred between 3:30 p.m. and midnight on June 13 at a residence in the 30000 block of Little Mack Avenue in Roseville, according to officials.
Officers were dispatched to a local hospital just after 11-month-old Roseville boy was admitted with severe head trauma, according to authorities.
Kimora Launmei Hodges, the boy’s mother, said she had picked him up from her neighbor, who had been babysitting him while his mother was at work.
According to authorities, Hodges, 21, of Roseville, had been watching the child on and off for two months.
Hodges informed the mother that the boy did not appear normal, prompting the mother to dial 911 and have an ambulance dispatched to the apartment, according to officials.
According to authorities, the child was taken to a hospital and underwent immediate surgery. According to an update provided by police on Wednesday, he died as a result of his injuries.
According to authorities, Hodges was arrested and did admit to detectives that she had physically assaulted the child.
She was initially charged with first-degree child abuse, a crime punishable by life in prison. Following the death of the boy, police said they are working with the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office to upgrade the charges against her.
Hodges is being held in the Macomb County Jail on a $250,000 bond, NO 10%.
