Police arrested a 12-year-old boy on Thursday after he attempted several armed carjackings in the Washington, D.C., area.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the boy attempted to carjack three cars and succeeded in carjacking a fourth. On Thursday, March 4, four incidents occurred within an hour in Northeast D.C.
According to police, the incidents started about 6:30 p.m., when two suspects approached an individual and ordered the driver to leave the car, one of whom was brandishing a handgun.
The perpetrators confronted a second individual who was sitting in their car about 45 minutes later. The man was ordered out of the vehicle by one of the suspects, who was brandishing a handgun. He left the scene after refusing the suspect’s orders.
The perpetrators then made a third attempt five minutes later, at 7:20 p.m., and ordered someone to hand over the keys to their car before fleeing the scene on foot.
However, in the fourth incident, the perpetrators approached a woman sitting in her car. One of the perpetrators, armed with a gun, ordered that the woman to get out of the car. The perpetrators sped away in the woman’s car after she complied.
Shortly thereafter, the police said “one of the suspects had been apprehended” and “the victim’s vehicle had been recovered.” The same day, a 12-year-old boy from Southeast D.C. was arrested and charged by the police. Authorities said they are still looking for another suspect captured on a security camera.
