Wednesday, a jury awarded Johnny Depp $15 million in damages for winning his defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard.
In his defamation suit, Depp was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. In addition, the jury awarded Heard $2 million in punitive damages, NBC News reports.
On Friday, the jury in Fairfax, Virginia, began deliberations.
Depp filed a $50 million lawsuit against Heard after she published an opinion piece for The Washington Post in 2018 in which she referred to herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” Heard counterclaimed $100 million against Depp.
Judge Penney Azcarate of the Fairfax County Circuit Court reduced the punitive damages awarded to Johnny Depp to the state’s statutory cap of $350,000, bringing his total damages to $10.4 million.
