On Friday afternoon, three teenagers were shot, one fatally, near a high school in the Bronx.
The shooting occurred around 1:40 p.m. on East 156th Street near the South Bronx Educational Campus, according to the NYPD. According to police, the teens were trying to walk home from school when shots were fired.
According to authorities, a 16-year-old girl who was shot in the chest has died. Another 16-year-old girl was shot in the leg, and a 17-year-old boy was shot in the butt cheeks. At Lincoln Hospital, they were in stable condition.
Police are still investigating the incident, but they say two people were scowling at each other across an intersection when someone started shooting. The 3 victims were walking down the street.
“We believe that they are coming from school, that they were headed home,” Deputy Police Chief Timothy McCormack told reporters at a brief news conference.
According to police, no arrests had been made in the case. They stated that they do not have a description of a possible suspect.
