According to Birmingham Fire and Rescue, a 3-month-old and an 11-month-old were killed when a tree fell on a house in the 600 block of 10th Avenue West in Birmingham during violent storms Thursday evening.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner, 3-month-old Jalaia Ford and 11-month-old Journee Jones were transported to Children’s Hospital but perished.
An 11-year-old was also present and was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Officials said one woman was entrapped in the residence and was freed before 9 p.m. Another woman was rescued from the home as well.
The two women were transferred to local hospitals with minor injuries.
According to Birmingham Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Sebastian Carrillo, getting everyone out of the house was a timely process.
“Because the structure is so unstable every time we move a foot the structure underneath is shifting. So we’re having to stabilize the structure as we move in and it’s just really time consuming” he said.
