The carnage began around 6:45 p.m. when a man opened fire on civilians in Haltom City, Texas.
Following reports of gunshots at a residence, cops responded to a 911 call from an elderly woman.
Officers in combat gear from multiple departments arrived on the scene and started searching for the suspect as two victims, a man and a woman, were discovered inside.
The 911 caller was injured but not seriously.
Three officers were also reported to have suffered non-life threatening injuries after the suspect opened fire on them after he’d been located nearly a mile away.
The suspect, mentioned as a white male with dark hair, wearing a blue shirt, blue pants, and a “battle belt,” is no longer alive.
He had a military style rifle handgun near him when he died from a self-inflicted wound, according to police.
It is unknown whether the gunman was related to the two victims. The Texas Rangers have launched an official investigation into the tragic incident.
