On Monday, two police officers were shot during a Fourth of July celebration in Philadelphia.

The shooting occurred shortly before 10 p.m. near the Philadelphia Museum of Art, according to authorities.

The Benjamin Franklin Parkway, where thousands had gathered for a concert and fireworks display, had been closed down by police. After the shots rang out, video showed the crowd scattering. Officers issued orders to shelter in place.

A bullet struck one officer in the head, and another in the shoulder.

They were both taken to the hospital and then released. The police are still investigating who fired the shots and why.

“At this point, it’s still too early to tell. We don’t know if this was a ricochet from celebratory gunfire. We don’t know if this was intentional. We don’t know if this was someone taking a shot intentionally at these officers from long range. But again, like I said, we are all just extremely grateful that this wasn’t worse,” said Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw.

The shooter is still being sought by authorities.
