2-Year-Old Girl Dies After 7 Hours Inside Hot Car in Family's Driveway

The mom of a New Jersey toddler discovered dead in the backseat of her family’s car on Tuesday sobbed in the arms of a law enforcement officer after learning her daughter had died.

On Tuesday at 2 p.m., the child was discovered incapacitated in the backseat of the family’s grey Honda Civic.

In Somerset, New Jersey, a neighbor noticed her in her car seat in the family’s driveway. He removed her from the vehicle and began CPR while waiting for EMTs and authorities.

According to police, the toddler was in the vehicle for at least 7 hours while temps reached 80 degrees. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, the girl could not be saved.

Her distraught mother was heard sobbing in the driveway after learning that her daughter had died. It’s unclear how the child was overlooked, or whether the mom and dad will now face charges.

According to neighbors, they are a lovely family with at least one other daughter.

According to kidsandcars.com, the child is the 22nd to die in the United States this year as a result of being left in a hot car, four of which occurred in a week in August.
