A 23-year-old woman was being held Friday in lieu of $1 million bail after being accused of impersonating a nurse and attempting to take a newborn from its mother at Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley.
Jesenea Miron of Moreno Valley was apprehended and placed into the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside on suspicion of kidnapping on Thursday evening.
According to Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Fransik, Miron entered the medical center campus at 10:30 a.m. Thursday and introduced herself as a recently hired nurse, allowing her to enter the maternity unit.
According to Fransik, the woman entered a room occupied by a lady and her newborn while on the ward and introduced herself as a nurse.
“While inside the patient’s room, she attempted to take the newborn,’‘ the sergeant stated. “The suspect was confronted by hospital staff, who then notified security.”
Neither the baby nor the mother were hurt.
