25-Year-Old Florida Mother Leaves Children Unattended to go Clubbing; 3-Year-Old Found Sleeping on The Sidewalk; Police Say

On Saturday, a 25-year-old Florida woman was arrested after her 3-year-old child was discovered sleeping on the sidewalk.

On Sunday, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office released a news release about the incident on its Facebook page. Shyla Heidelberg of Fort Walton Beach, according to police, has been arrested and charged with three counts of child neglect without great bodily harm.

Along with the 3-year-old who was discovered alone on the street at 1 a.m., authorities said they discovered two other children alone in an apartment complex. Heidelberg allegedly stated when questioned by police that she had left the children to unattended to go to a nightclub.

“The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office was called to Gibson Street around one a.m. Saturday morning after a security officer found a three-year-old wrapped in a blanket asleep on a sidewalk,” the sheriff’s department release said. “[A] subsequent investigation led to the discovery of two more young children asleep alone in an apartment at the complex.”

Heidelberg was arrested when she returned to the apartment and allegedly admitted to police that she had left the children alone for approximately 90 minutes while she went to a nightclub.
