According to Florida officials, a 3-year-old boy accidently shot his 2-year-old sister after discovering a pistol stashed between sofa cushions by a family acquaintance.

At a press conference, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd stated the girl was in “exceptionally” critical condition.

Police said the weapon was carried into the Lakeland, Florida, house by one of three males who had come to watch TV on Friday night.

Three guys at the house at the time gathered up the children and rushed in a car to rush to the hospital after the baby was shot. They collided with another car on the way, resulting in multiple injuries. A good Samaritan who had halted to provide help after the incident took the child and one of the adults to the hospital, according to Judd.

Kevonte’ Wilson, 23, told detectives he buried the revolver between sofa cushions to keep it out of reach of the kids. He was charged with failing to securely store a handgun, carrying a concealed handgun, and marijuana possession. Judd speculated that he may face more charges.
