According to multiple local reports, dozens of decaying bodies were found at an Indiana funeral home, provoking a police investigation.

According to the Louisville Courier Journal, police in Jeffersonville discovered 31 bodies at Lankford Funeral Home, “some of which were in advanced stages of decomposition.”

According to the outlet, police also discovered the post-cremation remains of 16 people.

According to local TV station WDRB, an air conditioning system at the funeral home quit working, and authorities do not presently suspect criminal misconduct in the incident.

According to WDRB, the funeral home’s owner “got behind on processing bodies,” citing an unnamed source.

Despite the fact that no one has been charged, Jeffersonville Police, the Clark County Sheriff’s Department, and Indiana State Police are investigating, according to the station.

According to the news outlet, Parker stated, “We’re working with the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office to ensure that the investigation is efficient and successful.”
