What we’ve learned about CPS visits to Detroit home where toddler was found dead in freezer”

Azuradee France, a woman from Detroit, was arrested and charged with the murder of her 3-year-old son after officers found the child’s remains in a basement freezer.

The 31-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree murder, child abuse, torture, and concealing an individual’s death.

According to The Detroit News, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy confirmed the arrest on June 26 and stated that the suspect had an arraignment and was being held in custody.

“The alleged facts in this case have astounded even the most jaded,” Worthy said. Our children are still in danger, not only from gun violence, but also from the supposed murderer who lives in the house with them.”

The prosecutor’s office went on to say, “The death of the child was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner. The case is still being investigated, and the factual evidence will be entered into the record during the preliminary examination.”

According to one of the victim’s relatives, the child was blind, and Child Protective Services visited him several times this year. When asked about the mom, the relative stated, “She couldn’t deal with it, and we all said give him to us if you can’t deal with it. He was the sweetest one. He was so sweet.”

Toni Haynes, the boy’s grandma, identified him as Chase Allen, who is blind. Haynes stated that she grew concerned after her daughter, Chase’s mother, informed her that the child had burnt his hand by handling a plateful of noodles, and she contacted Child Protective Services.

“I called CPS on her. A lot of us called, and they’d come out and give her kids right back to her,” she said.

When Detroit police and a child advocate arrived at the house on June 24, the woman acted suspiciously. They called a supervisor. The team found five children living in filth and a decomposing boy in a basement freezer. Police Chief James White remarked, “This case has shocked me, and shocked our investigators.”

The five other children were assessed at a hospital and placed in CPS custody, reports say. The accused mother’s first hearing is set for July 8, 2022.
