Authorities at the Laredo Port of Entry say they stopped a commercial truck carrying strawberry purée from bringing in over $35 million in methamphetamine.

On April 12, a CBP officer assigned to the World Trade Bridge discovered a tractor-trailer having arrived from Mexico with strawberry purée. The truck was then referred for further testing.

During a secondary inspection, CBP officers found 158 packages that included nearly 1,761 pounds of methamphetamine.

The methamphetamine was valued at over $35.2 million, authorities said. In a statement, Laredo Port of Entry Director Albert Flores said, “This massive seizure of methamphetamine underscores the reality of the drug threat we face at the port of entry and the determination of our frontline officers to apply the latest inspection technology coupled with officer experience to keep our border secure.”

The narcotics were seized by CBP and are being investigated by Homeland Security Investigations special agents.
