Police said they arrested an 18-year-old man on Sunday in relation to the death of a child found in the center of a Texas street.
According to the Dallas Police Department, Darriynn Brown has been charged with kidnapping and theft, with further charges likely after forensic examination. The teen, who was acquainted with members of the family, took the boy from his home, according to a police spokesperson.
The 4-year-old boy was discovered dead in the middle of the Saddleridge Drive before 7am on Saturday.
Investigators say a “edged weapon” was used during the assault on the child, according to Executive Assistant Chief Albert Martinez. Law enforcement officers could only verify “homicidal violence as the cause of death at this time” when pressed for details on the weapon used.
The investigation is being assisted by the FBI crime scene department.
Brown was arrested and booked into the Dallas County Jail on Sunday. He is now being held on a bond of $1,500,000. It’s unclear whether he’s represented by an attorney.
