According to jail records, rapper Young Thug was one of 28 people indicted Monday in Georgia on conspiracy to violate the state’s RICO legislation and street gang charges.
Jeffrey Lamar Williams, an Atlanta rapper, was arrested at his residence in Buckhead, a neighborhood just north of downtown. He was jailed at the Fulton County Jail, according to CBS. Fellow rapper Gunna, 28, real name Sergio Giavanni Kitchens is also charged, according to USA Today.
According to the jail record, the conspiracy charge dates back to 2013, while the gang charge dates back to 2018.
According to the indictment, Young Thug is one of three founders of the Young Slime Life, a “criminal street gang that started in late 2012” in Atlanta. According to investigators, YSL is linked to the national Bloods gang. The charges include “Preserving, protecting and enhancing the reputation, power and territory of the enterprise through acts of racketeering activity including murder, assault and threats of violence.”
Brian Steel, Young Thug’s lawyer, informed CBS News, “Mr. Williams has committed no violation of law, whatsoever. We will fight this case ethically, legally and zealously. Mr. Williams will be cleared.”
Young Thug was set to appear in court for the first time on Tuesday.
