In response to a nationwide shortage, a military aircraft from the United States delivered 35 tons of infant formula to Indianapolis on Sunday.

CNN was informed by an official from the Biden administration that the prescription formula will be dispersed to areas of the country with the greatest need.

However, the official stated that none of the first shipment would reach store shelves in the United States, adding that the shipment arriving on Sunday is hypoallergenic and will be fed to infants who are intolerant to the protein in cow milk.

The shipment included 132 pallets of infant formula, which were delivered by a C-17 cargo plane. From Zurich, Switzerland, the formula was trucked to Germany, where it was loaded onto a C-17 and flown to the United States.

The official from the Biden administration previously told CNN that the product contained in the initial shipment will be dispersed to hospitals, physicians, home health care facilities, and pharmacies in regions “where the needs are most acute.”
