88-Year-Old Grandmother Killed by Stray Bullet While Planning Family Member's Funeral

Warren detectives are looking into the death of an elderly woman. This is the city’s second murder of the year so far, according to FOX8.

It happened in the 3100 block of Starlite Street NW, between Lovers Lane and Southern Boulevard, about 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Ruth Lewis, 88, was killed in a senseless way, according to Mayor Doug Franklin.

“This was a senseless death caused by a random bullet. Obviously, she wasn’t the target so it’s so unfortunate, but that just goes to speak to the dangers of just having so many guns in irresponsible hands,” he said.

They were seated in the living room, according to the woman who called 911, arranging a funeral for a family member when Lewis was shot in the back.
