Father Gunned Down at Son's Football Practice in Oakland

A man reportedly walked up to a father who was coaching his son during a football practice in Oakland and shot him in front of his children, according to NBC.

The immediate aftermath was captured on cell phone video, with parents and children fleeing the park after hearing gunshots.

A family member stated Lewis was coaching his son on the field during a football game. Both of his sons, aged 8 and 5, were present when the shots were fired.

The suspected gunman surrendered to San Leandro police, according to Oakland police. Lewis and the suspect were connected to each other, according to family, but police aren’t saying anything about what transpired.

He was the star of the Oakland Bulldogs, a team in the top adult basketball league for players aged 35 and up.
