Black Police Officer Gets Fired After Body-Cam Shows Him Saying The 'N-Word'

The Tampa Police Benevolent Association has come out in support of fired officer Delvin White, who was captured on body-camera footage using a highly offensive phrase a few times, according to WTSP.

On Nov. 13, 2020, White, an eight-year veteran who most recently worked as a school resource officer at Middleton High School, was caught on camera saying the N-word to himself, according to police.

During the course of his investigation, police said White told his supervisor that he used the N-word again during an arrest a few days later, on Nov. 30, 2020.

When making an arrest for trespassing, his body-worn camera caught him saying the word twice.

“Derogatory statements made by police officers jeopardize the trust that our department works to establish with our community,” Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan said in a statement on Tuesday. “Tampa Police officers are held to a higher standard and incidents like this negatively impact the entire law enforcement profession”.

White was fired due to policy violations that prohibited discriminatory conduct.
