A district attorney in North Carolina said Tuesday that sheriff’s deputies were justified in fatally shooting Andrew Brown Jr., a Black man in April.

Andrew Brown Jr.’s actions, according to District Attorney Andrew Womble, led deputies to believe it was vital to use deadly force. Brown disobeyed deputies’ orders to stop and drove his car straight at one of the officers, according to Womble.

According to him, the first shot that was fired at Brown’s car hit the front windshield, not the back, as previously reported.
