On Thursday night, a house explosion in Pottstown resulted in the death of five people and the injury of two others. On Friday, the number of fatalities increased from four to five.

Officials report that one of the victims is in critical but stable condition, while another is currently undergoing surgery. The specifics of their injuries are currently unknown.

As the victims’ families are notified, officials will release more information about the victims.

On Thursday, Pottstown officials reported that two people may have been missing. On Friday, they say they believe everyone has been accounted for.

Fire officials say the explosion was a “isolated incident” with no community-wide risk. Two homes were completely destroyed by the blast.

Crews have been documenting the entire scene around-the-clock. The area is a crime scene until further notice.

Explosion rocks Pottstown, Pennsylvania neighborhood

Thursday night at 8 p.m., Pottstown firefighters were called to Washington Street and Butler Avenue. A house had exploded, causing a two-alarm fire and multiple injuries.

Pottstown Police, Philadelphia Police, the ATF, and the Pa State Police Arson unit are investigating.
