On his 55th birthday, a Brazilian weight lifter who shot himself up with oil for large muscles died.
Valdir Segato had been taking potentially fatal Synthol injections for years, causing strokes and infections in order to gain massive biceps, pectorals, and back muscles.
Segato stated previously that Arnold Schwarzenegger and superheroes such as the Hulk were his body sources of inspiration.
Six years ago, the So Paulo native was advised that if he decided to continue to use the infusions, he would face surgical removal, or at the very least nerve damage and muscle disfigurement.
His biceps expanded to 23 inches after he began injecting himself. On the streets, he was identified as “the monster,” and he was enthusiastic about it.
According to Moisés da Conceiço da Silva of Brazil’s Globo news, Segato decided to rent a property constructed behind his family’s residence and complained about a lack of breath on the day of his death.
“It was around 6 a.m., more or less. He came crawling through the back house and came to the front. Then he knocked on my mother’s window, knocked, knocked, then she woke up and he said ‘Help me, help me because I’m dying,’” da Silva told the publication.
Segato was taken to the hospital, but he collapsed at the front desk, appearing to be having a heart attack.
The drug had no effect on Segato’s strength and was purely cosmetic.
