A California man armed with a bayonet and a machete was arrested around the Democratic National Convention headquarters in Washington, D.C., on Monday, Capitol Police said in a statement.
According to Capitol Police, the 44-year-old man from Oceanside, California, was arrested early Monday morning for possessing prohibited weapons.
A patrolling cop noticed a Dodge Dakota pickup truck around midnight, according to Capitol Police. According to police, the vehicle was marked with swastikas depicted on the windshield and within the the truck, as well as “other white supremacist symbols.” It also obviously lacks a license plate, which was replaced with a photo of the American flag, according to the statement.
When questioned what he had been doing outside the DNC headquarters, the man reportedly stated that he was “on patrol” and discussed “white supremacist ideology and other rhetoric pertaining to white supremacy.”
The arrest happened to come less than a month after yet another man, Floyd Ray Roseberry of North Carolina, forced the evacuation of the United States Supreme Court and other structures after driving his pickup onto a Capitol Hill sidewalk and threatening to detonate a bomb.
