According to a state appeals court, a Milwaukee child sex trafficking victim charged with murdering her trafficker was compelled to do it.

Prosecutors have charged 20-year-old Chrystul Kizer with the murder of Randall Volar III, 34, in Kenosha in 2018. She was 17 years old at the time. Human trafficking victims in Wisconsin have an affirmative defense if the offense they perpetrated was a direct consequence of being trafficked.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the 2nd District Court of Appeals determined on Wednesday that Kizer can mount that argument. The matter will be heard in a status hearing on June 25.
