Late Tuesday night in Los Angeles, a man armed with a replica gun rushed the stage and tackled comedian Dave Chappelle, according to NBC4.
The LAPD confirmed the attack early Wednesday, saying the man’s weapon can eject a knife blade “when fired correctly.” It is unknown if the fan tried to use the weapon.
The man climbed onto the Hollywood Bowl stage and ran toward Chappelle, according to multiple videos and accounts. In one video, the comedian collapses, and others rush to his aid.
The attacker, a showgoer, was detained by security and taken to the hospital with “superficial injuries,” LAPD said. In the video, the unidentified man is seen on a stretcher, his elbow bent at an odd angle.
No one, including Chappelle, was hurt, cops said.
Brianna Sacks of Buzzfeed shared a video of the man being loaded onto an ambulance. Sacks said that before the attack, the comedian mentioned increased security due to widespread criticism of his transgender jokes.
