According to the San Antonio Police Department, a man from San Antonio was killed by fireworks on Monday evening.

It happened around 12:20 a.m. on the city’s Southwest Side in the 800 block of Harriman Place.

Pablo Ruiz, 43, was identified as the victim by the medical examiner’s office. His death was largely decided to be the result of a head injury caused by a fireworks mishap/incident.

According to police, Ruiz was shooting fireworks with a witness and had been getting drunk when he made the decision to light a mortar-style firework from the crown of his head.

According to police, the firework blew up from the tube’s bottom, piercing the man. He was declared dead at the scene.
