An arrest has now been made in New York for the murder of a 23-year-old Florida woman.

According to CBS, Sakiyna Thompson, 28, was apprehended by New York City police in the Springfield Gardens community of Queens on Wednesday, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Thompson is charged with first-degree murder, according to the sheriff’s office. It is unknown how soon she will be extradited.

Thompson had been “demonstrating a depraved mind without regard for human life…by stabbing with a sharp object, with a premeditated intent to cause death,” according to an arrest affidavit obtained by CBS4’s Peter D’Oench.

It happened around 3 p.m. on July 13th at the Tamarac Village Apartment complex at NW 93rd Avenue and 57th Street. According to the sheriff’s office, they obtained an emergency call for a non-responsive woman in a 2nd floor apartment, and when ambulance arrived, they discovered Hodgson had died.

Thompson’s arrest warrant was issued on July 25th.

The sheriff’s office has not revealed what prompted the brutal murder.
