On Tuesday in Hollywood, Calif., NBC Los Angeles reports that a group of onlookers pursued and beat a man who witnesses claim was abusing a dog.

According to local reports, witnesses claim the unknown man was brutalizing the dog by kicking and dragging it near Sunset Boulevard and the 101 Freeway.

According to witnesses, that is when bystanders pursued the man and beat him.

The suspect was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department on suspicion of animal abuse. The police did not make any arrests of the onlookers who reportedly attacked the man who was allegedly beating the dog, which had been rescued by animal control.

The dog’s owner was the man’s mother, and she stated that the dog had suffered a broken leg but would be fine.
