Officials say a mother left her two children in a ‘filthy hotel room for an extended period of time,’ and she is now facing charges. Ashli Rene Lock, 37, is charged with child abandonment, according to court documents.
Officers noted that both of the children did appear malnourished and unclean, with the one-year-old sleeping in a soiled diaper, according to officials.
The 12-year-old told police Lock took her out of school so she could care for her one-year-old brother full-time, according to court documents.
The 12-year-old also told police that because her mother didn’t provide much food for her baby brother, she fed him macaroni and cheese.
She hadn’t left her hotel room in about a month, according to the 12-year-old. Lock would come to the room from work on occasion, she said, but not always.
The 12-year-old also stated she didn’t have her mother’s mobile number and had no means of reaching her in the event of an emergency, according to authorities.
The hotel room was described by officers as “something resembling a Marvin Zindler-inspired nightmare of unsanitary living conditions, with broken bottles on the floor, drugs in plain view, slime in the refrigerator, and moldy food haphazardly strewn throughout.”
According to court papers, the 12-year-old also had shown officers pictures of injuries she alleged were caused by her mom beating her.
