Three people have been arrested after the body of an 18-year-old girl was discovered dumped on the side of the road in Mississippi last month.

Deric Hearn, Deputy Chief of the Jackson Police Department, held a press conference on Friday to announce the arrests and horrific details of the crime.

According to WLBT, the suspects are Dewitt Anderson, 34, Cedric Banks, 37, and Kaymia Blackmon, 19.

According to Hearn, on Feb. 15, authorities responded to reports of a girl’s body discovered near Clay Street, north of downtown, who had been shot several times.

The coroner’s office then notified detectives on March 24 that the girl had been identified as 18-year-old Amya Carey.

According to Hearn, a Carey relatives told investigators that on Feb. 15, she was picking up a friend, Kaymia Blackmon, who was with her boyfriend, Dewitt Anderson.

According to Hearn, the group visited several places that night.

According to authorities, Anderson’s brother, Cedric Banks, also went with the group at some point that night, and they all attempted to have sex with Carey.

According to Hearn, the 18-year-old refused and fought Blackmon. Anderson then pulled out a gun and shot Carey.

According to authorities, the group put Carey inside a vehicle while she was severely injured, and while driving, one of people raped her.

Banks then shot Carey twice, and her body was discarded where police later discovered it. Detectives do not know if the teen was dead or alive when she was raped in the vehicle, according to Hearn.

Detectives got in touch Blackmon and Anderson on Wednesday and obliged them to come to police headquarters. Hearn stated that the two described the events of that February evening during their interview.

According to authorities, all three suspects in this case have been denied bond.
