Officers say a suspect in a hit-and-run incident reported hearing voices before she struck pedestrians and fled the scene.

Beatrice Bijoux, 31, is accused of plowing her car into a crowd of shoppers outside The Fresh Market on Tuesday.

She is said to have injured four people, one of whom was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The others were only slightly hurt.

Later that day, authorities were able to locate her vehicle and apprehend her. There was a witness who tried to stop Bijoux from fleeing the scene of the accident, according to the arrest report.

Police say she told them that “the voices in her head had told her to kill the people” and expressed thoughts of suicide while she was being apprehended.

Police say Bijoux told them she was diagnosed with a mental health condition in 2019 but hadn’t seen a doctor since December.

Additionally, she admitted to the police that she had considered murdering her four-year-old niece, who lived with her on a part-time basis at the time of her arrest.

Accused of four counts of attempted murder, Bijoux has been detained with no bond.

Bijoux’s brother confirmed her profession as a lawyer to WPBF 25 News. She is listed as an attorney in good standing by the Florida Bar.
