Police in Rhode Island announced Wednesday that a man faces murder charges in the death of his girlfriend, whose body was discovered wrapped in plastic, towels, and blankets on the inside of a refrigerator in the apartment they lived in.
Police responded to a tip and went to a Providence apartment at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, where they interrogated a male tenant, according to police Maj. David Lapatin. He stated they then secured a warrant to search and discovered the body of Sherbert Maddox, 40, in the home’s refrigerator.
Maddox seemed to have been shot, and he believes she has been dead since Sunday. An autopsy will be conducted.
“Our investigation shows he did have some violent tendencies toward her in the past,” he said.
Nathan Cooper, 53, Maddox’s boyfriend, is charged with murder and firearms charges. Cooper’s arraignment on Wednesday was held without bail. He didn’t make any pleas. He was referred to the public defender’s office since there was no defense attorney identified in court records.
