Berks County, Pennsylvania, officials say the accused person in the kidnapping of a teen girl Pennsylvania early Wednesday morning was indeed the mother’s ex-boyfriend.
Duane Taylor is accused of abducting a 13-year-old girl from her residence Schuylkill Avenue around 2 a.m., according to the Berks County District Attorney’s Office.
According to authorities, Taylor then decided to take the girl to New York City.
The girl was discovered 15 hours after her sudden departure on Glenmore Avenue in Brooklyn, not wearing shoes. It was not immediately clear whether she was hurt.
According to the DA’s office, Taylor has been charged with kidnapping and other related crimes.
According to investigators, when the child’s mother awoke Wednesday morning, her daughter was gone from the house. She stated that the back door had been opened.
When police reviewed the surveillance footage, they saw the crime take place.
“At 2 a.m. a male with his upper body and face covered in sheet entered the residence, and walked up to the second floor. A short time later he was observed walking behind the victim and escorting her outside,” said Richard Tornielli, the Reading police chief.
Taylor was immediately identified as a suspect by investigators.
He is currently awaiting extradition from New York to Pennsylvania.
