Authorities in Maine said someone discovered human remains while trying to clean out their late father’s home after his death.

The horrific incident took place over the weekend on an estate in Casco where Douglas Scott, 82, resided before his demise earlier this year, according to state police.

On May 8, an unnamed close relative discovered the remains in an outhouse on the property and called 911, according to cops.

The identity of the individual whose skeleton was discovered is unknown. An autopsy has been requested on Sunday, and more assessments are expected in the coming weeks, according to authorities.

“The Maine State Police do not believe that there is any threat to the public and will share more information as it becomes available.”
