At a popular Jersey Shore amusement park, a worker died Monday morning after falling from a lift while working on a Ferris wheel.

According to The Press of Atlantic City, the employee, identified as Robert Sanger, 62, of Pittsgrove in Salem County, plummeted from the lift at Ocean City’s legendary Gillian’s Wonderland Pier at approximately 10:30 a.m.

At the time of the accident, Sanger, a subcontractor was working on the Ferris wheel.

He was pronounced dead at Shore Medical Center.

Sanger’s death was confirmed by Jay Gillian, president of Gillian’s Wonderland Pier and Ocean City’s mayor.

“We are saddened to report that an employee of a subcontractor working on a lift at Gillian’s Wonderland Pier suffered a fatal injury Monday morning,” he said in a statement.
