FDA Proposes Ban on Menthol Cigarettes and Flavored Cigars (Image: Screenshot/YouTube/10TampaBay)

The US Food and Drug Administration proposed a ban on menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars on Thursday, citing the “potential to significantly reduce disease and death from combusted tobacco use, the leading cause of preventable death in the United States, by reducing youth experimentation and addiction.”
According to Reuters, the proposal, which comes a year after the agency announced the plan, could take years to implement due to strong opposition from the tobacco industry.
