Rapper Lil Wayne was briefly detained at Miami Airport on Monday after the local police authorities received a tip that the private plane on which he was a passenger was trafficking drugs, according to many reports.
Miami Herald reported that the Miami-Dade Police had alerted the federal authorities to the situation and, after acquiring a search warrant, a joint investigation led by the FBI and the Office of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives seized cocaine and a Gulfstream G-V pistol.
Miami defense attorney Howard Srebnick represents Lil Wayne, 37, and said his client had been “cleared” by federal authorities to leave Miami — Opa Locka Executive Airport on Monday night, TMZ reported.
Lil Wayne was one of several passengers on the aircraft capable of accommodating up to 14 passengers and a crew. All passengers had to wait at the airport until the search was finished, according to the Herald.
Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that no immediate charges have been filed, but that could change, according to the Herald.
