Thursday, a Rutherford County principal was fired for an incident that occurred in 2019.

Police provided News4 with a 2019 video showing Walter Hill Elementary principal Helen Campbell and special education teacher Bonnie Marlar dragging a student through the hallway to a classroom.

Once the Rutherford County School Board discussed her dismissal, at least two individuals stated that the board had never spoken with Helen Campbell and argued that the charges did not warrant her removal.

Regardless, she was terminated from Walter Hill Elementary due to a sufficient number of votes against her.

This saga dates back to the year 2019, when principal Helen Campbell and teacher Bonnie Marlar were under investigation. They are accused of dragging a 10-year-old boy by his feet through the school, causing head injuries.

New images of the incident were displayed during the Thursday evening board meeting. During the meeting, an administrator for students with special needs also spoke.

“I have seen the video from beginning to end. I did not see any behavior that constitutes emergency behavior, dragging the student from the front to the back of the building to the common room, almost two football fields is not a CPI technique and is not proper restraint.”

Reportedly, Campbell was terminated and charged with child abuse and evidence tampering.
