‘Heinous’: Clearwater man lured, killed mother in year-long murder plot

Clearwater police said in a statement that a 24-year-old male was detained for first-degree murder after reportedly killing his mother on Saturday evening.

Logan Lopez is suspected of murdering 53-year-old Mary Beth Lopez after inviting her to his apartment with the intent of “putting an end to her.”

The city said that about 5:00 p.m., cops were dispatched to The Palms at Countryside Apartments when a neighboring resident heard a lady crying for help.

“Within this apartment, they discovered Mary Beth Lopez deceased,” according to authorities. 

She was reportedly beaten with a hammer and stabbed several times by Logan Lopez. According to authorities, he planned the murder for a year.

According to officials, Logan Lopez has never been arrested by the Clearwater Police Department, but he has a prior Baker Act record.
