Authorities in suburban Chicago have charged a man with concealing his mother and sister’s deaths by burying them in plastic containers in his backyard. Michael Lelko, 45, is charged with two felonies: concealing death and moving a body.

He was not charged with the murders of his mother and sister because the forensic pathologist was unable to determine the causes of death due to the bodies’ degradation.

The investigation began in August 2021, when police conducted a wellness check at Lelko’s home.

When questioned about his mother and sister, Lelko reportedly stated that his mother died in 2015 after being pushed by his sister and hitting her head.

According to authorities, he told them he buried his mother in the backyard and did the same with his sister ‘s body when she died of coronavirus in 2019.

Lelko has been released on bond with electronic monitoring and is scheduled to appear in court in May. His brother was also arrested, but he was released without being charged.

The brothers are expected to face federal charges for cashing their mother’s social security checks, according to authorities.
