A Florida sheriff who is renowned for cracking down hard on narcotics arrested his own daughter on suspicion of trafficking methamphetamine.

Deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department apprehended Kristen Kent, 38, on Monday afternoon.

‘It’s heartbreaking,’ Sheriff Tony ‘A.J.’ Smith told WMMB News, ‘because the last person you want to arrest is a member of your family, especially your child – I mean, it’s like you can’t even put it into words.’

Smith added: ‘I don’t think it’s anything you wish on your worst enemy to do something like this.’

According to the Miami Herald, the bust occurred when officers from Smith’s unit performed a ‘controlled buy’ that included Smith’s daughter. ‘She delivered 2 ounces and was arrested at that point,’ Smith said.

According to the sheriff’s department, Kent is accused of trafficking 14 grams or more of methamphetamine, drug possession or use, and cocaine possession.

Deputies arrested a different woman during the sting operation, but when officers asked who provided her with the drugs, she disclosed it was Smith’s daughter.

On Monday, Bailey Adaire Lee, 25, had also been arrested and charged with trafficking 14 grams or more of methamphetamine.

According to a clerk from the Franklin County Clerk’s office, both women who were being held at the Franklin County Jail made bail on Tuesday.

She said Kent posted a $25,000 bond and Lee a $50,000 bond.
