On Friday, Cincinnati Public Schools decided to pay $3 million to Gabe Taye’s family and implement anti-bullying initiatives. The school board’s confirmation is expected on Monday.
Taye, an eight-year-old boy, was a victim of bullying, mostly in his primary school. It continued on for years. His relatives said that it was so horrible that he committed suicide. It was more over four years ago.
“He is the reason that CPS will be doing all this extra work to identify bullying,” Attorney Al Gerhardstein said.
“What they wanted was to honor their child in a way that protects other children. That’s what the settlement does. You can’t get this on the verdict form,” Gerhardstein said.
Taye was a third-grader at West Price Hill’s Carson Elementary. His parents believe that he committed himself two days after a security video showed him being knocked out in 2017. They believe the school hid or downplayed the bullying.
Disturbing: Gabriel Taye Video Shows Attack Before Committing Suicide
Cincinnati school officials released a surveillance video Friday showing a disturbing incident involving an 8-year-old boy two days before he hanged himself. The video, from a hallway camera at Carson School, shows Gabriel Taye pulled to the ground by another student in a bathroom. His legs are visible in the bathroom doorway. Taye remains on the ground as other boys come and go from the bathroom, in some cases stepping over him.
