British people applauded as a German police officer dragged an elderly woman off a plane after she slapped a Jet2 flight attendant who took her gin and tonic.

Two cops dragged the woman, who appeared to be in her 70s, down the plane’s aisle before picking her up and carrying her off the plane.

As the woman was dragged off the plane, passengers on the flight clapped and cheered, shouting ‘Auf Wiedersehen, pet.’

The unnamed pensioner became confrontational and hit a Jet2 worker on the flight from Manchester to Rhodes, forcing the pilots to redirect the plane to Munich, Germany.

A Jet2 spokesperson said: ‘We can confirm that flight LS819 from Manchester to Rhodes was diverted to Munich Airport yesterday so that a disruptive passenger could be offloaded.

‘We would like to apologise to customers for this unforeseen delay and any inconvenience caused.

‘The health and safety of our colleagues and customers remains our number one priority and, as a family friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour.

‘We will not hesitate to vigorously pursue any costs incurred as a result of this diversion.’
