After bringing home a set of couches she found on Craigslist, a California woman discovered more than $36,000 in cash concealed inside one of the cushions.

Vicky Umodu, of Colton in San Bernardino County, went searching through classified ads for home furnishings for her new residence, according to ABC7.

While scrolling through Craigslist, she came across two sofas and a perfectly matched chair that were being given away for free.

The family who was distributing the furniture clarified that a loved one had recently died, and they were having to sell everything on the estate.

Umodu stated that the two sofas and chair were ideal for her new place. But when she got home and examined the sofas more carefully, she noticed something odd. One of the cushions contained an unknown object.

“I thought it was a heat pad,” said Umodu, who immediately discounted that theory because there was no electrical cord.

When she eventually unzipped the cushion and glanced inside, she found numerous envelopes containing large amounts of cash.

The family told KABC-TV that it was nearly $36,000. Umodu stated that she was never compelled to keep what she discovered. She stated that she immediately returned the cash to the family who had given her the home furnishings.

“God has been kind to me and my children, they’re all alive and well. I have three beautiful grandchildren, so what can I ever ask from God?” Umodu said.

When Umodu returned the money, the family informed her that they had found additional cash concealed throughout the residence, but only a few hundred dollars.

The family has no idea why the deceased man hid so much cash inside his couch.

As a thank you, they decided to give Umodu $2,200, which she utilized to purchase a new refrigerator.
