On Thursday, a jury found a groom guilty of attempting to sexually assault a bridesmaid in his wedding.

According to the Monroe County Office of the District Attorney, Daniel Carney, 31, of Monroe County, assaulted a participant of the bridal party in August 2019 while the group was staying at the Shawnee Inn following a rafting trip down the Delaware River.

According to investigators, the victim told them she became highly intoxicated and had trouble recalling certain events.

According to police, surveillance video from the Shawnee Inn demonstrated Carney guiding the victim down a corridor toward the men’s locker room entry, pulling her through a doorway.

According to the release, Carney sexually assaulted the bridesmaid by trying to have sex with her inside the men’s locker room, in a shower room.

According to police, Carney informed the victim of his actions the next morning, apologizing and urging that she use Plan B contraception.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where numerous abrasions were discovered on her body.

After an eight-hour deliberation, the jury ruled Carney guilty of felony aggravated indecent assault without consent, simple assault, and indecent assault without consent.

Sentencing is set for late July, and Carney’s bail has been reduced to $75,000 secured. He could face up to 10 years in prison for each felony.
