Authorities said a Texas father was arrested Tuesday after officers discovered human remains in his kitchen that he claimed were those of his son, who died in 2018.
The horrifying discovery was uncovered after officers were spurred by a concerned citizen to do a welfare check at David McMichael’s, 67, house in New Boston, according to a police news release.
When officers came, they inquired of the man as to the reason for their presence.
According to authorities, “Mr. McMichael said them it was because he had a body in his kitchen.” The remains were identified by the father as those of his son, who died in May 2018.
The remains were “probably” those of Jason McMichael, according to authorities, but an autopsy will be performed to verify.
According to officials, the father was arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse, and the body was taken to Dallas for additional investigation.
“The body was released to Mid-South Transport and taken to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for Autopsy and further identification,” the police department said in a news release.
