A driver who was involved in a quarrel with partygoers after they accused him of exceeding the speed limit and spraying bullets into the crowd, but was killed by one of the partygoers.
Wednesday, May 25, at approximately 10:45 p.m., a gunfight occurred at an apartment complex on Renaissance Circle in Charleston, West Virginia.
According to WSAZ, the Charleston Police Department reports that numerous people confronted 37-year-old Dennis Butler over claims that he had driven recklessly through the area while kids were playing outside.
The police report, which was obtained by WSAZ, states that Butler left the area but decided to return shortly thereafter with an AR-15-style rifle and began firing at the group.
According to the report, a woman attending the joint birthday/graduation party pulled pulled out her pistol to return fire and fatally wounded Butler by shooting him multiple times.
Chief of Detectives Tony Hazelett said: “Instead of running from the threat, she engaged with the threat and saved several lives last night.”
He added that no charges would be filed against the unidentified woman.
