Mount Healthy police said a 6-year-old girl was killed in what would seem to be a murder-suicide on Sunday. According to the initial investigation, she was killed by her father, who then committed suicide.
Police were called to the apartment in the 1800 block of Lakenoll Drive after receiving reports of a custody dispute.
When police arrived and managed to enter the apartment, they heard a shot fired from a second-floor bedroom. When officers attempted to enter, they discovered the door barricaded and heard more shots fired. SWAT was called in to safeguard the area.
SWAT tried to interact with the barricaded person, but when that failed, they entered the bedroom and found two people dead, both with gunshot injuries, according to investigators.
Iyla Johnson, 6, and her father, Eric Johnson, 40, were among the people killed. Mr. Johnson, according to police, was a convicted felon who was not allowed to own a gun.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with Ilya Johnson’s funeral expenses.
