According to Oakland police, the Pontiac driver was intoxicated and driving at speeds of up to 90 miles per hour before colliding with the van at the intersection of International Boulevard and 38th Avenue. After attempting to flee, witnesses restrained him.
According to a law enforcement source, the motorist arrested in the crash had a previous DUI arrest in 2015.
Keren Martinez stated that the van contained seven children and three adults, including her sister Anahi Uribe, who was riding in the passenger seat. Uribe is the children’s mother and is also pregnant. Doctors assured her that the baby would be fine.
The children were discharged from Oakland Children’s Hospital over the weekend. Their ages range from 2 to 14.
